ROYAL MAIL MUST LISTEN TO MEMBERS

On Thursday 19th October the CWU held a National Briefing in London to update Branches on the latest position in our long running dispute with Royal Mail. This was followed by a march through central London of CWU members culminating in a rally outside Royal Mail’s Mount Pleasant site where the General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary (Postal) made clear the Union’s unbending committment to continue our fight for fairness and justice on behalf of members.

No last minute legal manoeuvres or High Court ruling is going to stop the CWU from securing the best possible settlement on Pay and the Four Pillars and securing an agreement that delivers decent employment, standard of living and retirement security.

The CWU intend to ensure the mediation process is completed strictly in line with the words and timescales set out in the Agenda for Growth Agreement. This requires the appointment of an external Mediator within seven days of the Court ruling and a maximum of four weeks for the mediation process. The parties must then meet within a week of the process concluding to decide their response to the Mediators report after which there is a two week cooling off period. This means the whole process should be concluded by early December. Any attempt by Royal Mail to delay the process and drag their feet will be strongly resisted.

The CWU goes into the mediation process with a massive mandate from our members. Our message to Royal Mail is clear – listen to the overwhelming voice of your own workforce and make a significant and substantive move in forthcoming talks or face the inevitable prospect of strike action.
